A band you have to see to believe. Based in Johannesburg, this three piece surf/psychobilly outfit have been around for years
and have mastered the art of making your foot tap. Martin Rocka also has a nasty habit of getting in your face, talking to your wife and discussing his...
well, goings on behind closed doors. But don't take it too seriously...it's all tongue in cheek.
"Their style is a mix of Elvis, The Stray Cats, 50's rock n roll and surf music with their own version of psychobilly.
With songs like "Surf's up, motherfuckas", "Shakin' all over", "Me, my monster and my shrink" together with covers like
"You're so square" and "Blue Suede Shoes" this is an ultimate party band." - Dreaded Outsider (from the band's website)
Dave Ferguson's solo show, uses only harmonica, human beat-box and vocals, recording live loops and then layering and building
those loops to construct a song. Nothing is pre-recorded so once a song is played it's gone... ya know "live". Doing a mixture
of originals and some Blues/Americana numbers etc. Genre classification would have to be something like "Trans-Blues & Country-Dub".
Although it's a solo act it's not your typical singer-songwhiner type show, expect more in your face dance-style grooves served
up in a Deep-South style...Showcasing the incredible range and expressive qualities of the harmonica.
"FOOTSTOMPING, BLUES, BLUEGRASS AND CAJUN OFFERINGS FROM ONE OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING SOLO PERFORMERS YOU ARE LIKELY
TO SEE FOR SOME TIME" - Vusa Mazula 2007
Reverend Wright And The Mystery Train Gamblers create a sound that can only be described as "Kustom Built Rockabilly".
Based in Pretoria, South Africa, these three hot roddin, kustom kultured rockabilly cats create their music like a greaser would
build a hot rod. Taking old, classics songs, melodies and ideas, stripping and sanding them down and then rebuilding it with a
new flavour, a rebuilt V8 engine and primer black paint.
Consisting of the Reverend Wright on vocals and upright bass, Norm on guitar and Dylan on drums, this trio are about having a
good time, playing music that gets the blood circulating, the booze flowing and the engines reving.
It's Elvis and Johnny Cash meets Motorhead, it's a chopped ford coupe with the memories of the past and the passion of the
future, it's Kustom Built Rockabilly at it's best.
Get in the mood and see what rockabilly is all about...
